Bailey Stepping Down as Missouri Attorney General to Join FBI

Jefferson City, Mo. (KFMO) - Missouri will soon see its third attorney general in six years.

Andrew Bailey announced Monday that he is resigning to become co-deputy director of the FBI. His final day in office will be September 8. Bailey was appointed attorney general in 2022 by then-Gov. Mike Parson after Eric Schmitt was elected to the U.S. Senate. Schmitt himself had replaced Josh Hawley, who won a Senate seat in 2018. Governor Mike Kehoe is expected to announce Bailey’s replacement at 10 a.m. Tuesday. The new attorney general will serve the remainder of Bailey’s term, which runs through 2028.

Bailey, who had never run for public office, previously worked as Parson’s general counsel, an assistant prosecuting attorney in Warren County, and as an assistant attorney general.
