Cardinals Busy Selling at Trade Deadline

St. Louis, Mo. (KFMO) – The MLB Trade Deadline has passed and the St. Louis Cardinals shook up the bullpen with three individual trades.

Ryan Helsley was dealt to the New York Mets in exchange for three minor league prospects. Infielder Jesus Baez, right-handed pitcher, Nate Dohm, and right-handed pitcher Frank Elissalt were acquired by St. Louis.

Baez, 20, was signed by the Mets as an international free agent out of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic in 2022 as a 17-year-old. Dohm, 22, was the Mets 3rd round selection in the 2024 MLB Draft out of Mississippi State University after transferring from Ball State University following his freshman year. Elissalt, 23, was the Mets’ 19th round selection in the 2024 MLB Draft out of Nova Southeastern University, the same college that produced Cardinals pitcher Miles Mikolas.  Elissalt, a Miami, Fla.

Helsley, 30, pitched in 275 career games for St. Louis since his Major League career began in 2019. The two-time All-Star was drafted in 2015 and was the longest-tenured in the Cardinals organization.

Steven Matz was dealt to the Boston Red Sox for first base prospect Blaze Jordan. Jordan, 22, was the Red Sox 3rd round selection in the 2020 MLB Draft.

The Cardinals wrapped up their deadline day by trading Phil Maton to the Texas Rangers for minor league pitching prospects Skyler Hales and Mason Molina.

Hales, 23, was drafted by the Rangers in the 4th round of the 2023 MLB Draft. Molina, 22, was drafted in the 7th round of the 2024 MLB Draft and was dealt to Texas in January.
