Cardinals Take 2-of-3 From Dodgers in LA

Los Angeles, Ca. (KFMO) – The St. Louis Cardinals took two games of the three game series with the Los Angeles Dodgers this week.

On Monday, the Cards got on the board first with a Masyn Winn big fly in the second inning. The Dodgers answered with a run in the fourth and both teams traded runs in the eighth. Yohel Pozo pinch hit for Pedro Pages in the top of the ninth and singled in Garrett Hampson as the eventual game winning run in a 3-2 game. Sonny Gray pitched seven innings allowing one run on one hit and struck out eight batters. Riley O’Brien collected his first career win in relief, Jo Jo Romero earned the save.

In the second game of the series, Cardinals starter Miles Mikolas struggled yet again by allowing five earned runs in three innings of work. He allowed three home runs, two of which were hit by Max Muncy. Overall the Dodgers collected 17 hits and beat the Cardinals 12-6. Nolan Gorman and Willson Contreras each homered in the loss.

The series concluded on Wednesday as the Cardinals captured their 27th comeback win of the season. Entering the eighth trailing 3-2, Jordan Walker singled to give the Cardinals a one-run lead. The single brought in Alec Burleson and Winn. Then Lars Nootbaar added insurance with a double that scored Brendan Donovan in the ninth. Romero earned the win in relief, while O’Brien collected his first career save in the 5-3 win. Walker was 3-for-5 in the victory.

St. Louis (58-58) is off Thursday and begin a three game series with the Chicago Cubs on Friday. Coverage on B104.3 begins at 6:20p.m.

In other news Nolan Arenado, who was placed on the 10-day injured list on August 1, is headed to the Cardinals’ spring training facilities in Jupiter, Florida to rehab in hopes of returning from a shoulder injury.
