Ameren Missouri Proposes Natural Gas and Battery Storage Facility at Rush Island Site

Jefferson Co., Mo. (KFMO) - The Missouri Public Service Commission (PSC) has set a July 21, 2025, deadline for parties wishing to intervene in a case involving Ameren Missouri’s proposed construction of new energy infrastructure in Jefferson County.

On June 27, 2025, Ameren Missouri filed an application seeking a Certificate of Convenience and Necessity (CCN) to construct, own, and operate an 800-megawatt simple cycle natural gas electric generation facility with fuel oil backup. The facility would be built at the former Rush Island Energy Center, a site previously used for coal-fired generation.

In addition to the gas plant, Ameren is requesting permission to install a 400-megawatt battery storage facility at the same location. The company is seeking PSC approval by March 2026.

The PSC has invited applications to intervene in the case no later than July 21, 2025. Interested parties can submit applications via mail to the PSC at P.O. Box 360, Jefferson City, MO 65102-0360, or online using the Electronic Filing and Information System (EFIS).
