St. Francois County, Mo. (KFMO) - BJC HealthCare has agreed to pay up to $5.5 million to settle a class action lawsuit alleging it shared patient information from its MyChart portal with third-party companies such as Facebook and Google without users’ consent.
The settlement affects individuals who used BJC’s MyChart patient portal between June 2017 and August 2022. Plaintiffs claim that BJC improperly disclosed sensitive health information to third parties, violating patient privacy rights. While BJC HealthCare denies any wrongdoing, the organization agreed to the settlement to resolve the allegations.
Class members are eligible to receive a cash payment of $35, though the final amount may change depending on the number of claims submitted. If claim submissions are low, the settlement fund could grow to a maximum of $9.25 million.
Eligible individuals will receive a notice by email or postcard explaining how to claim their settlement benefits. To receive a payment, claimants must submit a valid claim form by October 8, 2025.
The deadline to object to or opt out of the settlement is September 8, 2025. A final approval hearing is scheduled for October 16, 2025.
More details and claim submissions are available through the official settlement website listed in the notification materials.
