Child Airlifted After Three-Car Crash on I-55

Jefferson Co., Mo. (KFMO) - A child was airlifted to a hospital following a three-vehicle crash on Interstate 55 near Highway 61 Sunday afternoon.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports the accident happened shortly before 3 p.m. One child suffered injuries and was flown to a nearby hospital. No other injuries were reported in the crash. Both northbound lanes of I-55 were temporarily closed while crews worked to clear the scene.

In addition to the northbound lanes, one lane of southbound I-55 was shut down for about 90 minutes while authorities investigated the cause of the crash.

This marks the second serious accident at the same location in less than a week. A similar multi-car crash there claimed the lives of three people last Sunday.
