Farmington Correctional Center Inmate Dies at Mercy Hospital Festus

Farmington, Mo. (KFMO) - An inmate from the Farmington Correctional Center has died.

According to the Missouri Department of Corrections, 85-year-old James Down was pronounced dead at 2:57 a.m. Friday, October 10, 2025, at Mercy Hospital in Festus.

Down was serving a 10-year sentence for first-degree child molestation out of Barry County and had been in state custody since November 12, 2019. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
