Farmington, Mo. (KFMO) - The City of Farmington has officially launched the planning process for a new Comprehensive Plan, a long-term visioning and strategy document that will help guide the community’s growth and development over the next two decades.
The Comprehensive Plan serves as a roadmap for the city’s future, establishing shared goals and outlining action steps to shape how Farmington evolves. It will be used by city staff, elected officials, developers, and residents alike when making decisions about zoning, land use, transportation, housing, and more.
Mayor Chris Morrison emphasized the importance of the plan, saying, “We look forward to seeing this project through from start to finish. There are many City employees, board members, and community members that put a lot of work into making the best decisions for the City’s future. A well-thought-out comprehensive plan will help ensure we have good guidelines to follow for years to come.”
Community engagement is a major focus of the process, with several public events planned to gather input. The first event will take place on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at the Farmington Public Library Community Room from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. This open-house style workshop will allow residents, business owners, and property owners to drop in at their convenience to learn about the city’s changes over the past decade and share ideas for the future.
Tim Porter, Development Services Director, said, "We are excited about the planning process and look forward to engaging the diverse perspectives of our community in meaningful discussions that will help shape a vibrant and resilient future for Farmington."
To lead the project, the city has partnered with PGAV Planners, a St. Louis-based urban planning and economic development consulting firm with extensive experience in community visioning and development strategy.
The City encourages all who live, work, or own property in Farmington to take part in this important initiative to help shape the next chapter of the community’s growth and success.
