Fatal Crash on Interstate 55 in Ste. Genevieve County Sunday Morning

Ste. Genevieve Co., Mo. (KFMO) - A fatal crash occurred Sunday morning on southbound Interstate 55 in Ste. Genevieve County, claiming the life of a 21-year-old man.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident happened around 9:37 a.m. near the 154 mile marker. Troopers report a 2009 Pontiac G5 was traveling south when it went off the right side of the roadway, struck a rock bluff, and overturned.

The driver, a 21-year-old man from Ste. Genevieve, was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS personnel. A passenger in the vehicle, also a 21-year-old man from Ste. Genevieve, sustained serious injuries. He was airlifted to St. Louis University Hospital by Air Evac. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

The vehicle was extensively damaged and was towed from the scene.
