Fredericktown, Mo. (KFMO) - A chase near the Fredericktown High School and Middle School campuses Tuesday, September 9, ended in an officer-involved shooting.
According to Patrick James with the U.S. Marshals Service, the incident began when Fredericktown Police attempted to stop a suspect who had both state and federal arrest warrants. The suspect fled by vehicle before abandoning it and running on foot.
Authorities say the suspect presented a firearm during the pursuit, prompting law enforcement officers to fire shots. The suspect was struck, airlifted from the scene, and transported to a hospital for treatment. No members of law enforcement were injured.
The incident occurred on Sargent Drive, directly across from the school campuses. Officials confirm there was no threat to students or staff.
The response was a joint effort between the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, Fredericktown Police Department, U.S. Marshals Service, and the Missouri State Highway Patrol. The Highway Patrol is leading the investigation into the shooting.
