Jefferson City, Mo. (KFMO) - Governor Mike Kehoe has formally requested a major disaster declaration from President Donald Trump to support six Missouri counties, including Washington County, following a devastating outbreak of severe storms and tornadoes on April 29.
The request comes after extensive damage was documented across the affected areas, including Washington County, where powerful winds and tornado activity caused widespread destruction. Kehoe is seeking FEMA Public Assistance to help cover more than $16.5 million in damage and emergency response costs reported in the impacted counties.
If approved, the federal assistance would help reimburse local governments and nonprofit agencies for repairs, debris removal, and emergency response expenses.
