Inmate Serving Life Sentence at Potosi Correctional Center Dies at Area Hospital

Potosi, Mo. (KFMO) - A man serving a life sentence at the Potosi Correctional Center has died at a St. Louis-area hospital.

According to the Missouri Department of Corrections, 73-year-old Conrad Schmitt III was pronounced dead at Mercy South Hospital on Tuesday, May 6. Schmitt had been incarcerated since 1998 after being convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Officials say an autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
