Ameren Gas Customers to See 12% Rate Hike Starting September 1

Jefferson City, Mo. (KFMO) - The Missouri Public Service Commission has approved a rate increase for Ameren Missouri’s natural gas customers, raising monthly bills by approximately 12 percent, or about $13 on average.

The new rates, set to take effect September 1, come at a time when utility rate increases are outpacing both inflation and wage growth. Ameren Missouri’s Director of Regulatory Affairs, Steven Wills, said the hike is necessary for the company to recover lost profits. Ameren officials also claim the increase will help maintain system reliability and ensure continued investment in infrastructure.

However, consumer advocates, including the Consumers Council of Missouri, AARP, and the Missouri Industrial Energy Consumers, are pushing back, warning that the added costs could further burden households already struggling with rising living expenses.

The rate hike affects thousands of residential customers across the state.
