Missouri Agencies Prepare as Government Shutdown Continues

Jefferson City, Mo. (KFMO) - Several Missouri organizations are taking steps to brace for the impacts of the federal government shutdown, now in its third day.

The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education says preparations were made to ensure operations can continue despite funding disruptions. Some government assistance programs could soon feel the effects. EBT cards were loaded this week, but funds for November may be delayed if the shutdown continues. SNAP and other food assistance programs are currently funded only through next month. The Missouri National Guard has also been affected, with troops required to work without pay. Governor Mike Kehoe this week authorized Guard support for ICE facilities in the state. Meanwhile, the Mark Twain National Forest remains closed due to the funding lapse, though the U.S. Postal Service continues unaffected.

Federal regulators have also been hampered, with the FDA halting safety reviews for livestock feed ingredients, raising concerns over the food supply chain.
