St. Louis, Mo. (KFMO) - Spire Missouri customers will see higher natural gas bills starting this fall.
On Wednesday, the Missouri Public Service Commission approved a $210 million rate increase, set to take effect October 24. The hike is expected to raise the average monthly residential bill in eastern Missouri by about $8.20, or roughly 10 percent. While the increase is significant, regulators noted it was about $80 million less than Spire initially requested last November.
Spire says the rate adjustment will help cover infrastructure upgrades, including pipelines and meters, to maintain reliable service. The PSC also approved a new assistance program that waives the $22 monthly customer charge for qualifying low-income households. Spire provides natural gas to 1.7 million homes across Missouri and two other states.
Customers struggling to pay their bills are encouraged to contact Spire at 800-887-4173.
