MoDOT to Host Meeting on Route 67 Intersection Upgrades

Madison Co., Mo. (KFMO) - The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) is inviting the public to a meeting on Monday, August 4, to review and discuss proposed intersection improvements on Highway 67 at Routes A and C in Cherokee Pass. The meeting will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Cherokee Pass Fire Department, located at 1030 County Road 333 in Fredericktown.

MoDOT officials say the project includes removing the current median crossovers and installing J-turns at both intersections. According to MoDOT Project Manager Chris Crocker, J-turns are designed to enhance safety by eliminating the need for drivers to cross fast-moving traffic.

“During the meeting, we will share two alternatives for J-turns at these intersections,” said Crocker. “J-turn intersections have been shown to reduce right angle crashes, also known as T-bone crashes, which are a leading cause of fatalities and serious injuries.”

With a J-turn, drivers will turn right in the same direction of traffic, merge left, and then make a U-turn to proceed in their intended direction, removing the risk associated with direct cross-traffic turns.

The meeting will be held in an open house format, allowing attendees to drop by anytime during the two-hour window to view project materials and speak with members of the project team.

Tentatively, MoDOT plans to let the project in March 2026, with construction beginning as early as May 2026 and completion expected in early 2027.
