Washington County Memorial Hospital Resumes Full Operations After Smoke Incident

Potosi, Mo. (KFMO) - Washington County Memorial Hospital resumed full operations by 5 p.m. Sunday following a morning incident that prompted an emergency response and precautionary evacuation.

Shortly before 11 a.m., smoke was reported in the hospital’s laboratory department due to a mechanical failure involving energized equipment on the facility's roof. All coworkers and patients were safely evacuated as a precaution.

The hospital was cleared for reopening by the Jefferson County Hazmat Team, the Washington County Fire Chief, and the State Fire Marshal. Emergency crews from Washington, St. Francois, and Jefferson Counties assisted at the scene.

Hospital CEO Michele Meyer commended the collaborative effort that ensured a smooth and safe outcome.

Minimal remediation is now underway with the help of Servpro, and the affected area is being treated. Full services, including emergency care, have resumed.
