A heat wave is spreading through the Eastern U.S. this week. The rising temperatures are turning pavements and playgrounds into dangerous burn zones. CBS News climate correspondent David Schechter explains. Warning, some of the images in this story are difficult to view.
Dozens of wildfires are burning across the West, including in California, Nevada, Arizona and Utah. In California, there are 14 active fires, with seven of those starting just over the weekend. The Gifford Fire north of Santa Barbara doubled in size in 24 hours.

Actress Loni Anderson, one of the great American pop culture figures of the 1970s and 80s, died Sunday at a Los Angeles hospital after a "prolonged illness," the Associated Press reported. She was known for her breakout role on the sitcom "WKRP in Cincinnati." Anderson was 79.
